Finding Motherland

Finding Motherland is alive and now online. The next exhibition in Vienna is planned to start on 10th May 2020. More information will be announced soon, depending on the world’s situation until then.

Franzi Kreis is collecting audio-recorded conversations of daughters, telling their mother’s stories. A significant photographic portrait is taken after each interview. The exhibition consists of the photographic daughter-portraits and headphones/MP3-Players containing the mother’s retold biography. The collection has been touring several empty shops in Vienna’s outer districts in 2019. During a two week stay of the artist Franzi Kreis in February 2020 eight women in Moscow have been portrayed and interviewed . The project is now available in Russian, Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, German and English.

My bullies actually hit me a little less hard after that as they said they would feel sorry for my mom.

We crossed the Czech-Austrian border hidden beneath cover sheets on trucks.
